This was day two of our Viking River Cruise on the Alsvin. We haven’t actually cruised yet as we’ve been parked on the Danube.
Viking typically includes one shore excursion per day. This is one big difference from the ocean cruise I’ve taken where none of the excursions are included.
We had a great guide and a comfortable bus. Our day started by going to Heroes’ Square (Pest side), and ended on Castle Hill (Buda side). Castle Hill is featured in “the book.”
What I didn’t know until researching this trip is that Buda and Pest were two different cities, separated by the Danube. They are now one city, but each side is different. The Pest side of flat, and the Buda side is hilly. The Buda side is also older. Our bus drove down the oldest street, which is parallel to the river.
I also live in a metropolitan area, which is two cities separated by a river: Minneapolis and St. Paul. I can’t ever imagine them combining into a single city. I assume it was a big change when it happened here.
It was a grey day in Budapest, but thankfully not as much rain as yesterday.
Second largest synagogue in the world. Unfortunately we couldn’t go inside today due to the Sabbath.
