551 steps

St. Peter’s Basilica in the morning light

551 steps, one way…to the top of St. Peter’s Basilica. I did take an elevator for part of the journey, but still walked more than 300 steps to the dome. My legs were a bit wobbly, but the view was worth it.

Strange how walking hundreds of real steps isn’t like using the Stairmaster at the gym?!
St. Peter’s, like the monument in DC, is the highest building in the area. St. Peter’s is in Vatican City; which is a technically a different country.
I put this in the same category as climbing Mt. Fuji – once in a lifetime. I don’t think there is a good reason to do it twice. I am glad to have done it once, and it was a beautiful morning that day in Rome.

About jewelsworldtravels

I want to see the world! I am armed with the book "1,000 places to see before you die" and I am having a great time. I am also a dog lover and theatre snob.
