National Passport Day

National Passport Day is September 17, 2011 – go and get one!

I think everyone should have a passport. But, I like to travel; and I live in Minnesota, which borders a foreign country. Yes, Canada is technically a foreign country even though they look like us and mostly talk like us. Eh!

Passports are good for ten years. (Five years for children.) Ten years is a long time. 1/7 of your life, if you live to 70. My brothers don’t have passports, and claim the cost is the reason why. Again, it is good for ten years.  That is $13.50 per year. Most people should be able to afford less than $14 annually for the premier piece of documentation. Your driver’s license isn’t good for ten years. How much does that cost? Plus, there are a wide variety of naughty things that can cause you to lose your license. You need to do some pretty bad stuff to have your passport revoked.  Cue music from Law & Order……

What if someone from your family, or one of your friends wants to whisk you away on a fabulous trip to Mexico? You won’t be able to go without a passport (or passport card). You just missed a great trip!

It is the best document to prove who you are.

I think everyone should get a passport.
